Description
Grundig SV 80 amplifier. Grundig RT 40 tuner. Classic Vintage. Fully revitalized.
Grundig was established in 1945. After the World War II, the Allies watchfully controlled the production of radio receivers in Germany. Max Grundig saw a niche and created a “Heinzelmann” i.e. a Grundig radio without tubes, which officially was not categorized as a radio and thus was not controlled. The product was so successful that the company was able to quickly build its own factory. In the early 50s, Grundig created its own model of a tape recorder and a TV set specially for the premiere of the first German TV channel. Already at that time, the company was the largest manufacturer of radio receivers in Europe.
In 1957, Grundig acquired a majority stake in typewriter manufacturers: Triumph and Adler, which enabled the creation of the biggest tape recorder factory in the world. The company introduced modular systems with separate components (radio, stereo amplifiers, vinyl record players, tape recorders, separate speakers, and even 3D audio devices) making it possible for customers to create their own hi-fi sets, according to their individual needs and interiors. In 1967 Grundig launched a compact cassette recorder, soon followed by a car cassette recorder. In 1969, it produced Europe’s first hi-fi amplifier with a built-in equalizer, which became a bestseller. Twenty years later, at the age of 81, the founder Dr. Max G. Grundig died, and in 1993, Philips, which had been buying Grundig’s stock since the 70s, took complete control of it.
At the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries, Grundig quickly recognized the enormous potential of mp3 technology and began to develop it, thus becoming one of the market leaders. Since 2007, Grundig Intermedia GmbH has been part of Arçelik A.Ş. and a producer of a variety of electronic devices, ranging from MP3 players, through TV sets to household appliances.
The SV 80 is the second transistor amplifier launched by Grundig, produced since 1966, first with an acrylic glass front panel, and then since 1967 with an aluminum one (SV 80 M). Since this particular model turned out to be high-quality and reliable audio equipment, it was eagerly used in nightclubs in federal Germany.
The SV 80 works great with analog sources such as: turntables, tape recorders, tuners. The sound is “fat”, full and warm, or even round, thanks to the use of germanium transistors. The sound is similar to tube devices.
The device has been equipped with a new enclosure matching the design, made of Canadian maple wood and finishing in Chinese oil produced from natural oils, the metal elements were sandblasted and painted using the automotive wet painting technique. Potentiometers in perfect condition.
